Washington, D.C. — November 6, 2025 — Global Recreation, Events, and Tourism USA Coalition (GREAT USA) held its first official meeting with the White House Special Events Task Force and the White House Office of Public Liaison to discuss preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup and other major international events.
The meeting focused on enhancing coordination between the public and private sectors to ensure operational readiness, safety, and international travel facilitation ahead of a historic decade for U.S. sports tourism.
Representing leaders across the travel, tourism, hospitality, and entertainment industries, GREAT USA joined federal officials in discussing progress in reducing visa wait times, increasing international visitor spending, and securing new funding to support state and local law enforcement who host these events.
"We are grateful for President Trump and the White House Task Force on the progress they have made to prepare for the 2026 FIFA World Cup—our first major test, and one we have to get right,” said Geoff Freeman, President and CEO of the U.S. Travel Association. “Through continued collaboration and success we will set the tone for a decade of historic events that strengthen America’s economy and global reputation.”
“Our meeting reflected a true spirit of partnership,” said GREAT USA Executive Director C. Stewart Verdery, Jr. “We are encouraged by the administration’s proactive engagement and commitment to collaboration as we prepare for the 2026 World Cup and beyond. Together, we can ensure that the next decade of megaevents delivers not only unforgettable experiences for fans and consumers but also recognizes the massive economic opportunities these events provide to American businesses and communities.”
As the U.S. enters a new era of global events, GREAT USA remains committed to serving as a collaborative partner to government leaders, ensuring that the nation’s hosting of the World Cup and other international events strengthens America’s travel economy and showcases its capacity for safe, world-class experiences.
